The haori is a traditional Japanese jacket, originally worn only by men during the Edo period, but later adopted by women starting from the Meiji era (1868–1912). Today, it is a versatile garment that can elevate any outfit, whether worn as a cover-up or a mini-dress.
This haori is made of authentic tsumugi silk, a fabric dating back to the Edo period (1603-1868), when rural weavers hand-spun short silk fibers to create everyday garments.
Unlike shiny silk, tsumugi features a matte and delicately textured surface that becomes smoother over time. Since most tsumugi garments were made as full kimono sets, finding a single haori today is extremely rare.
Valued for its warmth, durability, and understated elegance, this haori embodies the spirit of traditional artisanal textiles.
Entirely handmade in Japan, it bears witness to Japanese tailoring art and attention to detail. It does not come with haori-himo (traditional closure cords), but it has eyelets where they can be inserted, allowing you to customize your style.
This haori is perfect for any occasion: it can be worn as a cover-up for an elegant and sophisticated look, or as a mini-dress for a touch of originality.
