Tokoname ceramics (常滑焼, Tokoname-yaki) is one of Japans six ancient ceramic traditions (Rokkōyō), originating from the city of Tokoname in Aichi prefecture. It stands out for its mineral-rich local clay, which gives the ceramics a characteristic reddish-brown color and exceptional strength.
Unlike other Japanese ceramics, such as Mino-yaki (renowned for its versatility and bright colors) or Bizen-yaki (appreciated for its natural unglazed finish), Tokoname ceramics are particularly suited for producing teapots (shudei) and tea ceremony items, thanks to their ability to retain heat and enhance the teas flavor. Furthermore, its porous surface and natural glaze make it ideal for daily use, combining tradition, functionality, and durability.

Description
The elegance of contrasts
The black ceramic kyusu with pink details is a stunning traditional Japanese teapot, completely handcrafted in Tokoname (Aichi pref.) by the Tosei atelier (陶聖). Tokoname is one of Japan’s six ancient ceramic kilns (Rokkōyō). Additionally, it’s renowned for its exceptionally high-quality clay, rich in minerals that, when in contact with tea, enhance and improve its flavor.
This kyusu is made from black “kokudei” ceramic, embellished with delicate pink details on both the rim of the opening and the knob. These details give it a touch of elegance and refinement.
Practical and functional
The ceramic filter is positioned inside the teapot to retain the leaves and ensure a clear and flavorful tea. Additionally, the flattened and ergonomic shape, side handle, and integrated filter make it the ideal teapot for perfectly preparing all your favorite Japanese green teas right at home.
Under the teapot’s spout, you can find the seal with the artist’s name, certifying its authenticity and artisanal value.
